I didn't have any involvement in the morning at all, all our plans were to catch them at Euston AFTER the game, and that was in place well before the day. As I recall it wasn't just WHU that turned up for them, either.

We certainly didn't outnumber them in the evening, either, but we'd thought it through...

As for Birmingham, well, I reckon everyone has a moment or two in their life when they just get lucky... when the 'big truck greases their hip' and they go marching on. 21-11-1974 was my day. The Tavern was all underground - it would've been an horrendous place to die. My girlfriend at the time came up to Brum two weeks earlier, for the weekend, and we'd spent most of the Saturday evening down there with friends...

Most here seem to remember 1974 well, I guess.

World's population in 1974 was an estimated 4 billion.
World's population in 2018 is an estimated 7.7 billion

It will be DOUBLE the 1974 figure in, ooh, 16 months?

Urban % of population has risen from 37% to 55%.

FOMB. And Spurs STILL can't fill a stadium.

(Sorry, carry on with the football natter.)

1974/75 - Man Utd in Div 2... first game: away to Orient...
We had a well good bumpy with them after the game, at Euston... we had em running up the down escalators to get away... All very silly, looking back, but AT THE TIME... 😉

And 74 was the very first Knebworth, too. Van the Man, Alex Harvey, Tim Buckley (strumming his way through the last months of his life...), and the Doobies!

The nadir of the year for me was during an eight week stay in Birmingham for business training... on the Thursday and Friday nights we usually went from the Hagley Rd (hotel land) into town, a few pubs in the centre, then out to The Opposite Lock in Gas St, or to Barbarella's off Broad St. One of our regular city centre haunts was the Tavern In The Town, a huge cellar bar just down from the Bull Ring. On the Thursday night (21-11-74) we decided, purely by chance, to forego the city centre and head to Quinton instead, where some of the local lads in training with us lived. That random decision is the only reason I am still here now...

Seem to remember Bill Green scored Carlisle’s first top division goal v Chelsea.
They won their first two and were top. Before being relegated.

Stan Bowles was asked what he remembered about playing for Carlisle.
Sheep poo in the garden he said

Cruyff did that and every kid in the Playground was trying to do it the next day.

As a result of the Dutch success, grass roots football was revolutionised in this country.

Small goals and seven a side introduced instead of full sized pitches for 8 year olds
